Can someone tell me how I can identify the type of paint on my deck??? Iknow you can put one kind of paint over the other but not vice-versa but I want to know is it latex or oil first?

I've heard that you can use either de-natured alcohol or non-acetone nail polish remover to tell. If you rub some on the paint and it disolves, it's latex (water-based), if it remains unaffected, it's oil-based.

Be sure to test on a hidden spot, though.

It seems to me that I remember my brother purchasing a small kit for precisely such a purpose at a paint supply store some years ago.
